Title |
VA: Gender Identity in the Ancient Near East |
Description |
This course explores recent theoretical, methodological, and thematic developments in identity studies with a focus on gender identity, in which introduces the cultural representations of women within the social and historical contexts. It criticizes how the feminist theory and political practises have affected the examination of the roles of women within ancient societies. By this, it is expected to give the students a general understanding of how identity theories have reconfigured notions of subjectivity and established gender identity. Therefore, the course will combine various archaeological data from different periods in the Near East to contribute to our understanding of the past dynamics of ethnicity, culture, class and gender. |
