Title Introduction into the Religion and History of Judaism
Description English Description: This lecture is an introduction to Jewish religion and history from its beginnings to the present day. It is aimed in particular at students with little or no previous knowledge. Students of Jewish Studies, Theology and Interreligious Studies are introduced to the basic and essential knowledge of Judaism required for their studies. However, the lecture is open to all interested and includes history, religion and literature of Judaism in equal measure.
The central categories of the Jewish religion include God, sacred texts, people, time, land and memory. Accordingly, this overview lecture will repeatedly refer to these anker points. The lecture ranges from antiquity to modern Judaism and its various currents. Part of the lecture is a visit to the Bern synagogue.
