Title Population dynamics, lecture with practical
Description The lecture presents general principles about how populations are regulated. Key concepts in population dynamics such as exponential and density-dependent population growth, environmental and demographic stochasticity, as well as the link between demographic parameters (survival, recruitment, dispersal) and population size via Leslie matrix models are taught in detail. Topics relevant for conservation and management such as population viability analyses or harvesting models are also subject in the course. Besides theory and the illustration with many examples, we will also simulate and analyse population data with R. The understanding of population dynamics is enhanced due to the practical part and at the same time the widely used statistical software R becomes more familiar.
