Title Methods seminar "Capturing life as it is lived: Theory and practical implementation of diary studies"
Description Psychological processes can be studied as differences between persons or differences within persons. These approaches can lead to different conclusions. For example, people who type faster than others also make fewer errors because they have strong typing skills. However, when individuals type faster than usual, they tend to make more errors. Thus, the relationship of the variables differs fundamentally between persons and within persons. To examine within-person processes, research often uses diary studies in which individuals are interviewed over several days.
The seminar aims to provide students with a sound understanding of diary studies. In the seminar, students apply the methodological and statistical knowledge they have acquired directly by planning and conducting a diary study on the topics of occupational behaviour and well-being, analysing the data collected using appropriate methods, and writing up the results in a short research report. In addition to the theoretical and practical skills acquired, this also enables students to gain an insight into the entire process of a research project in the field of applied psychological research.
Parts of the seminar will be held in English. Students can choose to write their research report in German.
