Culturally sensitive psychotherapy |

With increasing migration and globalisation, interest in cultural diversity is growing both in therapy research and in everyday psychotherapeutic practice. The seminar offers an introduction to culturally sensitive psychotherapy with a focus on the treatment of trauma-related disorders. Starting with theoretical concepts of culture, migration and intercultural competence of therapists, the focus will be on practical psychotherapeutic work with people from other cultural backgrounds. How do therapists work with culturally mediating interpreters? How is a sustainable therapeutic relationship established in a culturally sensitive way? How are diagnoses and treatment planning developed? Which culture-specific characteristics have an influence on the patient's experience and behaviour? In addition to theoretical input from the participants, practical examples from everyday clinical practice, group exercises and role plays will take centre stage. Furthermore, the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in survivors of flight and traumatic experiences will take centre stage as a concrete example of psychotherapy. The seminar aims to reduce fear of contact and encourage participants to become aware of their own cultural norms and reflect on their own cultural background. A basic willingness to actively participate in the discussion and the courage to self-reflect is expected. Emotional topics relating to war and flight can also be discussed, as well as personal examples from the speaker's work with survivors of torture and war. The seminar is therefore not suitable for participants who have unprocessed traumatic experiences themselves, whose mental health is acutely impaired or who do not want to deal with the topics of torture and war. |
