Title Research Practical in Discovering Novel Plant-Derived Medicines, with bachelor work
Description "We are what we eat”. Yet, while the human diet is turning more and more towards veganism, little is known about the bioactive, plant-derived, compounds that we ingest daily and how our diet affects our health. In this practical, we (i) characterize the diversity of chemicals that we ingest from our diet and (ii) evaluate how it affects our health, either through surveys (e.g. effects on well being, depressive symptoms, sleep, anxiety) or through experimental assays (e.g. on the gut microbiome, resistance to diseases,…). This work is highly pluridisciplinary and involves collaborations with the Infectious Diseases Institute (IFIK), the Biomedical Research Center (DBMR), the Insel Spital, and the Psychiatric Hospital (UPD). The specific focus of the practical is discussed with their supervisor according to the project status and student interests. Of note: this work is confidential and requires the student to sign a confidentiality/IP agreement upon start.
