Title |
Scientific Writing for Climate Scientists |
Description |
This course is intended for PhD students (and MSc students upon special approval) of the Graduate School Climate Sciences. It aims to help young climate scientists become better scientific writers. Topics covered include successful writing skills, generic conventions, and effective style. Since this is a writing course, students in the seminar should be in the process of working on an extended piece of their own writing. This is an interactive seminar that combines theory with practice in every meeting. Students will complete writing tasks and receive specific corrections and comments from the lecturer. The student's supervisors should agree to review the text once during the course.
Average homework load will be 3-4 hours per week. The final assignment is to produce a text (2500 - 4000 words, not including references) that can be used for the student’s own research (dissertation, research article, master thesis) later on.
This course is NOT ACCOUNTABLE towards the compulsory courses (9 ECTS) of the PhD curriculum. |
