Während die postkoloniale Kritik schon Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs als Folge von Entkolonialisierungsbewegungen entstand, entwickelte sich die postkoloniale Theoriebildung erst Ende der 1970er Jahre. Obwohl meist englischsprachig, steht sie dem französischen Poststrukturalismus nahe. Das Seminar konzentriert sich auf einige Schlüsseltexte der Hauptvertreter*innen dieser Theorie, vor allem E.W. Saids, G.Ch. Spivaks und H.K. Bhabbas. Es gilt, ihre Konzepte zu diskutieren, etwa "Orientalismus", "Andersartigkeit", "Unterordnung", "Hybridität" oder die Dichotomie zwischen "Zentrum" und "Peripherie", und ihr Analyseinstrumentarium an ausgewählten literarischen Texten zu erproben.
Die Teilnahme an der ersten Sitzung ist obligatorisch.
