Title |
Sociology of New Technologies: Moral and Ethical Issues |
Description |
In this course, we will explore the complex interaction between science, technology and society. In the contemporary context, new data-driven technologies predominantly guide social change and they often create unforeseen moral and ethical issues. Such technologies spark new societal debates necessitating novel policy responses. Are technical aspects given more importance than moral and ethical implications of new technologies? In the first part of the course, we will discuss theoretical approaches to social processes around production of scientific facts and artifacts, in the second part, we will turn our attention to empirical studies. By examining the social, cultural, political and material dimensions of knowledge and technology production, distribution, and uptake, the course provides a broad introduction to sociological perspectives within Science and Technology Studies.
