Root number 7751
Semester FS2022
Type of course Seminar
Allocation to subject Psychology
Type of exam not defined
Title Children's development in institutional contexts
Description Content: In the seminar, developmental processes are considered and discussed that are influenced or set in motion by socialization processes in social and educational institutions. Cognitive functional areas as well as aspects of social-emotional development will be included; the content will be influenced by school psychological topics and problems. Therefore, topics will range from effects of day care for young children, effects of early enrollment, special education, grade repetition, effects of adoption and institutionalization on cognitive and/or social development, to school absenteeism.
Requirements: By reading a foundational text, all participants will prepare thoroughly for each session. The seminar will be designed so that for the first part of each session, an expert group of students will discuss the foundational text with the other participants based on predetermined key questions. For the second part of a session, the expert group will prepare a presentation followed by a discussion on further aspects of the basic text (appropriate additional literature will be suggested to the expert group). In the Master's examination week, a written exam will be written on the contents of the seminar, probably an open book exam with open questions. The acquisition of the 5 ECTS requires regular, active participation, the taking over of a session and at least a sufficient written performance in the written exam. The grade of the seminar is awarded on the basis of the written exam. Within the framework of the seminar there is also the possibility to write a seminar paper.
The seminar makes high demands on continuous and active participation. For the grading of the 5 ECTS associated with the seminar, a final exam will be written during the Master's exam week.
Literature: The literature relevant to the examination will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
Registration: Registration must be done through KSL. Registration is binding and cannot be cancelled or changed.
Study focus: The work performed in the seminar will be recognized for a Master's module in Developmental Psychology (15, 30 or 45 ECTS) as well as an elective.
