Title Exercise on faith patterns of individuals
Description In times of religious individualization, it can be assumed that individual worlds of belief are becoming increasingly differentiated. The religious and spiritual content that people are interested in and believe in, the religious and spiritual practices they follow, and the religious and spiritual experiences they have are becoming more diverse and also more confusing. In the seminar, we will engage with this diversity on the basis of empirical data. Specifically, we will analyze transcripts of qualitative interviews on religiosity and present and discuss the findings of these analyses. For this purpose, each student will receive a transcript and contextual information about the case. In the first part, we will first introduce individualization and secularization theory as well as a multidimensional model of individual religiosity that will serve as a framework for the case analyses. Based on this, the seminar leader will conduct a case analysis as an example. In the second part, we work on the cases assigned to the seminar participants. This gives the opportunity to discuss open questions of the own case analysis in the seminar group. In the third part, the seminar participants present their case analyses and in this way present an individual world of belief. In the discussions following the case presentations, the cases presented will be related to each other. Prerequisites for participation in the seminar are basic knowledge in empirical research on religion, especially in qualitative methods, and the willingness to work intensively on a case.
