Title |
Assessment of digital behavior change interventions |
Description |
Digital behavior change interventions (DBCIs, e.g., smartphone apps) represent a flexible and potentially effective way to promote health-related behaviors. Their application ranges from supporting medication intake, to reducing alcohol consumption, promoting smoking cessation and improving physical activity and diet. A plethora of apps targeting health-related behaviors is publicly available on the app stores (e.g., Google Play, iOS App store). This seminar will teach how to assess such apps by i) categorizing their content using the Behavior Change Techniques (BCTs) taxonomy and ii) evaluating their quality in terms of adherence to behavior change theories and empirical evidences. During each lesson, students will be introduced to key theoretical and methodological topics (e.g., BCTs identification, inter-rater reliability) and a specific focus will be placed on the practical application. The assignment will be a written report and presentation about the assessment and comparison of specific target apps. |
