Title BA/MA Seminar: The Romance of Tibet: Western Illusions and Tibetan Buddhism in Popular Culture
Description This seminar explores the complex interplay between Tibetan Buddhism and Western perceptions, focusing on the "romance of Tibet" as it has been shaped and mythologized in cinema, comics, and various media. Drawing on key concepts such as orientalism, cultural appropriation, and the commodification of spirituality, the course critically examines how Western popular culture has often constructed idealised and distorted images of Tibet and its religious practices.
