Description:
Type of exam: Written exam (multiple choice)
This course provides an introduction to the institutional and policy framework for the global coordination of financial regulation and its implementation on the national level. The course will answer the question what the essence of banking is, why it is a risky business and why banks need to be regulated. No prior familiarity with financial regulation or banking is required. We will use banking scandals and financial crisis to learn about the drivers and the context of regulatory initiatives. We will also include discussions about cur-rent regulatory topics (e.g., crypto-assets, climate change). Furthermore, we will provide an overview and a critical analysis of the international regu-latory architecture, the main regulatory bodies, the policy making by soft law regulation, as well as the achievements and limitations of international regulatory cooperation.
This is an in-person course. Lectures will not be recorded.
ECTS: 5 (RW), 3 (WISO)
