Holocene Vegetation History of the Central and Southern Alps |
| Description |
Field Course: Monday 29 June to Thursday 2 July 2026.
This field course will visit sites used in active paleoecological research in the Central and Southern Alps. Students will gain an overview of the vegetation history of the region over the past 20,000-10,000 years, and learn how past events continue to shape the modern landscape. We will present an integrative approach used to understand the ecological consequences of past changes in climate and disturbance regimes. Specific topics include Holocene treeline dynamics, biodiversity changes, fire ecology, paleogenetics, and the natural ecosystems that preceded extensive human impacts.
Registration latest until April 1, 2026.
Cancellation after 23.04.2026: fee to cover costs must be paid or replacement must be organized. We will stay overnight in mountain huts or youth hostels, the fee to cover these costs will be ca. CHF 180.- for three nights. |
