Title Sociale Aspects of Sustainability
Description Social sustainability refers to the long-term safeguarding of fair and equal living conditions for all people and generations to come. The focus is on promoting social structures that consider the well-being of all members of a community and enable the integration of ecological, economic and social aspects of sustainability. This includes education, health, mobility, fair working conditions, access to resources such as water and housing and fundamental human rights issues, participation and democratic structures. The aim is to reduce social inequalities and promote inclusive social cohesion.
Debates on sustainability are closely linked to questions of justice. There are various perspectives and approaches to analysing these power relations. The breadth of geography, with its social and natural science approaches, once again offers unique opportunities and challenges here.

Justice means everyone has the same rights and opportunities regardless of origin, gender, age or social status. In a (socially) sustainable society, justice is a fundamental principle ensuring a fair distribution of resources and opportunities. Social justice is a prerequisite for social sustainability, as stable and healthy social structures can only develop in the long term based on equality and inclusion. If all people have access to the same opportunities, this contributes to a stable and sustainable society.

How are questions of justice and social sustainability connected?
What concepts can we use to analyse questions of (in)justice? How do current social sustainability issues relate to work, education, health, im/mobility and migration?

How do global developments affect everyday life? How are different scales - from the individual and household to the global dimension - connected? What are the spatial effects of social categories such as age, social class, ethnicity and/or gender?
