| Title |
Emotional intelligence - theory and measurement |
| Description |
Emotional intelligence or competence is a relatively new construct that has been researched in various areas of psychology for about three decades. Thanks to several bestsellers, it has also become known to a broader public. In the first sessions of this seminar, the different theoretical models of emotional intelligence will be introduced and discussed. In the main part of the seminar, we will focus on the individual components of these models, i.e., concrete emotional abilities such as emotion recognition, emotion regulation, and empathy. For each of these abilities, different measurement instruments will be presented and evaluated with regard to their psychometric properties. We will also discuss the predictive validity of these instruments for various areas of life based on current empirical studies and address the question of whether emotional intelligence can be improved through training.
Requirements:
Regular and active participation in the seminar; independent organization of one seminar session on one of the assigned topics. |
