| Title |
Religions in Bern |
| Description |
Bern is home to a variety of religions (Christian national and free churches, the Jewish community, Muslim communities, Buddhist and Hindu centers and many more). This religiously diverse landscape offers the opportunity to get to know the coexistence and cooperation of the communities better. To this end, religious communities in the city are visited as part of the exercise. Participants will meet representatives from the field and talk to them on site about their form of faith and the traditions they live by.
These encounters are prepared and followed up with short theoretical units. The focus is on four main areas:
1. an understandable introduction to the respective religion (core beliefs, history, and forms of community);
2. the place of the particular religion in the local and national history of Bern and Switzerland;
3. a comparative perspective between the different religious traditions;
4. current political, social, and post-secular issues.
The examination of Bern's religious diversity is combined with practical media work: participants write a comparative blog post for the faculty's interrelblog, which also serves as proof of performance. |
