Title Methods Course Neuroscience in the Computer Lab
Description In this application-oriented course, students learn methods of data collection, processing, and analysis in the field of neuroscience and apply them independently.

The following topics are covered:
- Planning and setting up experiments and programming them in PsychoPy
- Creating automated data preprocessing pipelines and data visualizations in R with Quarto (“good practices,” reproducibility)
- Analysis of different neuroscience data sets (including reaction time analyses, time series analyses/EEG) using frequentist and Bayesian methods
- Application of equivalence analyses and Bayes factors
- Application of signal detection theory and diffusion drift models (DDMs)
- Interpretation, critical evaluation, communication/presentation, and peer review of analysis results

Students will work with the programming language R (and to a lesser extent with Python).
The focus of this course is on hands-on sessions in which students directly apply the knowledge they have acquired. Performance assessments are in the form of exercises. Attendance is mandatory.

Students need their own laptop (tablets are not suitable) with approx. 20 GB of free storage space for the course.

Knowledge of R (in accordance with Statistics I-IV in Psychology) is required. Students who are not majoring in psychology and need to acquire R skills can use the resources below in advance:
- Attend “Introduction to R: Statistics II Course” – Bachelor of Psychology and exercises.
- Resources for programming with R can be found, for example, at https://methodenlehre.github.io/einfuehrung-in-R/, or for advanced users, the books “Advanced R” and “R for Data Scientists” by Hadley Wickham: http://adv-r.had.co.nz/ and https://r4ds.had.co.nz/.
Advanced R skills and Python basics will be taught during the course.
