| Description |
This course provides students with an introductory overview of quantitative research methods in sociolinguistics, including different field research methods (surveys, interviews) and experimental techniques. By discussing key aspects of data collection and analysis, students learn how to devise appropriate research hypotheses, collect data for subsequent quantitative analysis, and perform a variety of the quantitative analytical techniques most commonly used in the social sciences (including analyses of variation, regression modelling, and certain non-parametric tests). Students also learn how to effectively summarize and present quantitative findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
This 7 ECTS version of this course is required for MA Sociolinguistics Mono and Major students. The 4 ECTS version of this course is required for MA Sociolinguistics Minor students. |
