| Title |
Anatomy and Biophysics of Plant-Atmosphere Gas Exchange |
| Description |
Semester week 10-14. 5-week block on Monday all day and Tuesday afternoon.
Monday 9.15-17.15 h (9.15-10.00 h seminar & discussion, seminar room 101, library / 10.15-17.15h individual work)
Tuesday 13.00-17.00 h (13.00-16.15 h individual work / 16.15-17.00 h seminar and discussion, seminar room 101, library).
Requires additional 8-10h per week of individual reading and data analysis.
Measuring how plants “breathe” in the field and under the microscope. Field work and lab work. Selection of a plant family / group for measurements in the Botanical Garden (BoGa). Hand-held gas exchange measurement to determine the gas exchange of plants in the BoGa. Dental imprints, light microscopy and simple ImageJ-based image analysis to measure stomatal anatomy (size and density). Finally, simple biophysical calculations of gas exchange capacity. |
