In this course, participants learn basic statistical methods that are widely used in biostatistical research: common statistical tools for describing numeric and categorical variables, basic concepts of
inferential statistics, confidence intervals for means, proportions and rates, one- and two-sample hypothesis tests for means, proportions and rates, confidence intervals for odds ratios, risk ratios, and rate ratios, as well as methods for time to event data: Life tables and Kaplan-Meier estimator.

Registration and deregistration regulation: Registration for PHS courses is open until approximately two weeks before the course begins. Participants may deregister without incurring an administrative fee up to one month before the course starts. After the deregistration period, the organisers will decide whether the course will take place. Registrations after the deregistration deadline are binding, and any deregistration after this deadline will incur an administrative fee of CHF 100.
