| Title |
Gender-sensitive psychotherapy for female-read individuals |
| Description |
In psychotherapy, consideration of gender-specific aspects is an important variable for the success of the therapeutic process and the outcome of therapy. On the one hand, this concerns the psychotherapeutic treatment itself, e.g. with the question: Does the sex of the therapist have an influence on the outcome of therapy? Which questions are investigated using which methods?
On the other hand, we know that people are exposed to different living conditions depending on their gender or sex. What influence does gender have on social reality, health and health behaviour, and individual mental illnesses? The seminar aims to develop the current state of knowledge on a specific topic. The question of how political psychotherapy is or should be may also be addressed.
After a general introduction to sex and ‘doing gender’, women-specific aspects relating to physicality, sexuality, emotion regulation, fertility, reproduction, somatic health and challenges in old age as topics in psychotherapy will be examined. One focus will be on the experience of physical and sexualised violence. Mental disorders that exclusively or predominantly affect women and pregnant people (e.g. postnatal depression, vulnerable narcissism) will be reflected upon using specific case studies and against the backdrop of social norms.
The seminar aims to encourage participants to discuss scientific facts and personal opinions and to reflect on their own gender-specific influences. A fundamental willingness to actively participate in the discussion and the courage to engage in self-reflection are expected. Emotional topics such as discrimination, abortion, violence and personal examples from the speaker's work in trauma therapy with patients may also be discussed. The seminar is therefore not suitable for participants who themselves have unresolved traumatic experiences, whose mental health is acutely impaired or who do not wish to deal with the topics mentioned. The seminar is open to people of all genders. |
