| Title |
Neglected Infectious Diseases and Populations (NIDP) |
| Description |
The Neglected Infectious Diseases and Populations (NIDP) lecture series is an interdisciplinary teaching program designed to investigate and anticipate neglected infectious diseases (NDs) through a holistic approach that integrates clinical, epidemiological, political, and economic perspectives.
The goal of the course is to educate future professionals who may play a pivotal role in addressing the emergence and re-emergence of these diseases, particularly as global challenges, such as climate change and socio-political instability, increase the likelihood of their spread to previously unaffected regions. It will cover four main topics:
1. Pathogen Biology and the Host Immune Response.
2. Epidemiology of the Neglected Diseases.
3. Economic Challenges related to Neglected Diseases and Affected Populations.
4. The Socio-Political Dimensions of the Neglected Diseases.
Lectures will be delivered by experts from these fields, including members of the Multidisciplinary Centre for Infectious Diseases (MCID) at the University of Bern, as well as specialists from Swiss institutions such as the Swiss Tropical and Public Health (Swiss TPH) Institute in Basel and the Global Health Centre (GHC) in Geneva.
By the end of this program, you will gain valuable insights into these interdisciplinary topics and have opportunities to interact directly with experts from various disciplines. The course aims to help you to go beyond your specific biological expertise and develop a broader understanding of NDs within diverse contexts. |
