| Title |
Current Answers to Current Questions on Mental Health, Mental Disorders, and Psychotherapy |
| Description |
This seminar addresses current and socially relevant questions concerning mental health, mental disorders, and psychotherapy, drawing on up-to-date scientific literature. Both in academic and public discourse, there is lively debate about whether mental disorders have truly increased, whether social media adversely affect mental health, how digitalization and societal crises (such as climate change, pandemics, and wars) impact psychological well-being, to what extent social inequalities influence mental health, whether psychotherapies have become more effective over time, and whether chatbots might one day replace psychotherapists. In the seminar, these and other pressing questions will be critically examined and linked to empirical findings from clinical psychology and psychotherapy research. At the beginning of the course, students will form working groups, each of which will select one guiding question, conduct a structured literature review, and develop an evidence-based answer over the course of the semester. Starting in the fourth session, groups will present their findings in class, followed by a plenary discussion. |
