| Title |
PA: GIS mapping of Bronze Age sites noth of the Alps |
| Description |
Archaeological maps and mapping are powerful methods of exploratory and interpretative analysis. As visualizations, they play an important role in generating and communicating knowledge. At the same time, maps are simplifications and a selective representation of the data. This exercise offers an introduction to the creation of archaeological GIS mapping, from the database to the finished map. Methods of source criticism and spatial analysis of archaeological data are explored in depth. Bronze Age sites in the northern Alpine foothills serve as practical case studies. The results are contextualized and discussed within the framework of the RISE research project “Climate Change Resilience and Vulnerabilities of Bronze Age Waterfront Communities 2200-800 BCE.” |
