Title |
Career Choice and Career Development |
Description |
The modern world of work is increasingly dynamic and individuals are forced to manage their own career development largely according to personal values and preferences. Thus, career choice and career development are central issues for most individuals across the lifespan. The proseminar deals with important models, theories, and research findings on this topic. These, for example, address the questions of how individuals can develop their careers according to personal values over the lifespan, how to choose an occupation that fits, how occupational interests develop and change, how careers can be successful, or how individuals can be supported in finding personal meaning in their occupation.
Topics covered include (non-exhaustive):
• Career choice and career preparedness
• Career adaptability
• Protean career orientation
• Self-directed career management
• Predictors and types of career success
The proseminar will alternate between input lectures by the lecturer, presentations by students, group work, practical exercises incl. reflection as well as self-study and face-to-face sessions (7x).
The course grade is composed of:
(1) two short MC exams during the semester (25%)
(2) a short presentation incl. discussion OR preparation of a scientific poster (25%)
(3) a short seminar paper, in which the student has to reflect on his/her own case study in terms of theoretical concepts and models as well as his/her own knowledge gain on about 5 pages (50%) |
