Title |
Infancy: Development from birth to age three |
Description |
Content: In this proseminar, selected topics on early childhood development from the prenatal phase to 3 years of age will be explored in depth. The goal of the course is to learn about current research on cognitive, language, and socio-emotional development and to answer and discuss current research questions. Empirical articles that are based on the textbook (see literature) will be discussed and evaluated. In addition, there will be a hands-on component to the proseminar where students can gain experience with a well-validated developmental test battery. Finally, we will explore a controversial topic related to early childhood from a scientific perspective. Requirements: Attendance of the proseminar is associated with high requirements: First, independent reading of English articles, an interactive exchange about the literature as well as a regular attendance of the proseminar (max. 2 missed appointments) is expected. Second, a short presentation (including group discussion) is required as well as assessing a young child with a developmental test battery, and group work on an empirical question. The final grade includes the evaluation of the short presentation, evaluation and reflection of the child assessment, and evaluation of the group work.
Literature: Selected Articles (on Ilias).
Registration: Registration must be made through KSL. The registration is compulsory and cannot be cancelled or changed.
