PREREQUISITES
A successful passing of the course “Introduction to Precision Optics” is required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A visit at the swiss laser company “Lumentum Switzerland” is planned.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will give an insight into lasers and laser systems as well as applications of modern laser systems. In particular the following topics will be addressed:
• Principles of laser (light absorption and emission, line width)
• Laser resonators and laser beams
• cw- and pulsed laser radiation
• Laser Types: Solid state lasers, diode lasers and gas lasers
• Pulsed systems, amplifier technologies (regenerative amplifiers, multi-pass amplifier)
• X-ray lasers and its applications
• Applications of short and ultrashort pulsed lasers i.e. laser drilling and laser micromachining
• Applications of lasers in medicine and metrology |
