Title |
Biochemistry III: Nucleic Acids and Macromolecular Biosynthesis |
Description |
The lecture deals with the biological flow of information from DNA via RNA to protein and its diverse regulatory mechanisms in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Structure, synthesis and repair of DNA, as well as synthesis (transcription) and processing (capping, splicing, polyadenylation) of mRNA are examined in detail. Another focus is on the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of gene expression. Ribosome biogenesis and the mechanism and regulation of protein synthesis are dealt with in the subsequent lecture Biochemistry IV. |
