Molecular Biology Internship 2025
The internship takes place for 11 weeks starting at the beginning of the semester, all day on Thursday and Friday. Work is done in groups of two. A detailed schedule with the course program will be available on ILIAS about one weeks before the semester starts. CHF 100.00 for the script of the lab course will be charged.
The practical course includes the following parts:
- Introduction and theory of the experiments that will be performed in the lab
- Practical work in the lab
- Theory in bioinformatics with exercises (to be handed in weekly)
On the last day of the practical, the written exam will take place and the handwritten lab journal must be handed in. No separate registration is required for the written exam

• restriction digest
• agarose gel analysis
• preparation competent bacteria
• cloning of a plasmid (PCR and ligation)
• side specific mutagenesis with PCR
• transfection in mammalian cells
• staining and image analysis of mammalian cells
• protein extraction and Western blot
• RNA extraction and reverse transcription
• qPCR
• deactivation of a protein using the CRISPR-Cas9 Technology
• protein expression in bacteria
• purification of protein
Bioinformatics
• using software for: plasmid mapping, primer design and sequence analysis
• find resources in databases
• image analysis
• qPCR evaluation |
