Title |
Psychological assessments – to bridge the gap between practice and science |
Description |
Students are familiarised with the general principles and practice of writing a psychological report.
The practical part is divided into 2 variants:
1) an assessment of a person who is interested in career counselling and is selected by the students themselves. A psychological question is then defined with this person; in the course of the seminar, the respective question is broken down into testable hypotheses and suitable diagnostic procedures are selected, with the focus on the diagnostic interview.
2) Vocational counselling based on an existing neuropsychological diagnostic set with recommendations to be worked out for vocational adaptation, retraining, vocational suitability for a person after an injury or illness of the brain; in the course of the seminar, the given question is questioned with regard to the selected diagnostic procedures, possible sources of error and limits of the testable hypotheses are determined.
The seminar will discuss and consider possible sources of problems in the diagnostic process for both practical variants. Difficulties in the decision-making process will also be addressed and options for presenting results and formulating statements will be developed. Finally, suitable suggestions for further action will be derived in the form of recommendations. This assessment process, which is jointly developed during the semester, is finally formulated by the students in the form of a psychological report.
Requirements
Regular and active participation in the seminar is required for successful completion. As part of the seminar, two students will jointly write a report, which will be assessed. The final grade is based on the grade of the report. The practical preparation and implementation of the psychological assessment will be time-consuming and require continuous participation throughout the semester. In the first option, one person will have to be recruited for the assessment. This should be a person who is interested in an assessment with regard to their future career or who is considering the choice of a suitable degree programme or further education in the near future.
In the second variant, an extended familiarisation with the special features of neuropsychological assessment and diagnostics will be necessary. |
