Description |
Social Neuroscience offers exciting insights into the mechanisms that govern our thinking, feeling, and behaviour in social contexts. This interdisciplinary field of research combines social psychology with cognitive and affective neuroscience, opening up new perspectives on the dynamics of human relationships. The proseminar provides a fundamental introduction to this young and emerging research area and offers insights into its latest developments.
In the first half of the proseminar, we will focus on the basics of Social Neuroscience, its origins, and methodological approaches. We will explore the evolutionary roots of social intelligence, highlight the importance of emotions and motivation for social behaviour, and learn about the neural mechanisms that enable us to understand and interact with others.
The second half of the proseminar is dedicated to current developments and topics shaping the field. Together, we will explore, amongst others, the neural underpinnings of loneliness, empathy, and interpersonal regulation. Additionally, we will examine fascinating topics such as the neurobiology of of crime and jurisprudence, artificial intelligence and morality, as well as clinical aspects. Finally, we will deeply consider existing limitations of social neuroscience.
Through critical discussions and engagement with current research findings, we will highlight the significance of these insights for our understanding of human behaviour and societal developments.
