Content: Medical progress has made it possible for children with chronic diseases to have long-term and sometimes even good chances of development today (much better than in the past). Nevertheless, diabetes, congenital heart defects, cystic fibrosis (mucoviscidosis), malignant tumors, celiac disease (and other diseases) pose great challenges for the children themselves, but also for their parents, both in terms of therapy, disease management and long-term care or long-term management and development of the children. And at the latest when these children start school or kindergarten, teachers and other professionals in the institutions are also confronted with the challenges.
The aim of the seminar is to provide students with factual knowledge about the development of children suffering from these diseases, to sensitize them to the challenges posed by the diseases and to familiarize them with developmental psychological stressors and protective factors. Furthermore, students should be given the opportunity to learn about and critically discuss health-promoting and psycho-educational measures in families, kindergartens and schools.
Requirements:
The seminar will be designed in such a way that in the first part of each session, independently collected facts about the clinical picture will be compared and completed using the pre-structuring (factsheets will be provided to fill in; 6 factsheets, pass/fail). The second part of the session will focus on the long-term, cognitive and social-emotional development of affected children and adolescents, discuss important family stressors and discuss developmental psychological support and counseling. Over the course of the semester, 6 face-to-face sessions will take place (17.9., 15.10., 29.10., 12.11., 26.11., 10.12.25).
The grade for the seminar is awarded on the basis of a short term paper and the performance in an oral examination on the 6 clinical pictures covered.
The acquisition of the 5 ECTS requires regular, active participation, 6 completed fact sheets submitted on time, at least a sufficient term paper and a passed oral examination.
Literature: is searched for and compiled by the students themselves and integrated into the factsheet or term paper. The use of tools with artificial intelligence is encouraged.
Registration: Registration must be made via KSL. Registration is binding and cannot be canceled or changed.
Study focus: The work completed in the seminar is recognized for a Master's module in Developmental Psychology (15, 30 or 45 ECTS), Health Psychology and as compulsory elective work.
It is also possible to write a seminar paper (seminar paper I: 25-30 p., 3 ECTS; seminar paper II: 35-40 p., 4 ECTS). Seminar papers are written independently by an individual and must comply with the guidelines of the Department of Developmental Psychology (see homepage). |
