Title Ecology Across Scales, Seminar
Description This is block course for Master Students of the University of Bern explores ecological processes across temporal and spatial scales through hands-on learning. It is led by four researchers/lecturers (Prof. Rubén D. Manzanedo-Forest Ecology, Prof. Christoph Schwörer-Paleoecology, Dr. Gemma Rutten-Soil Ecology, and Prof. Yann Vitasse-WSL), and covers current research topics in paleoecology, tree-ring ecology, and long-term ecological experiments being actively researched at the University of Bern.
The course is structured in week-long modules led by one of the lecturers on a specific topic of their expertise, including: Long-term Ecological Experiments, Paleoecological analysis, Long-term tree-ring data analyses, climate change and plant phenology, and ecological open data sources across scales. Modules begin with a theoretical introduction, followed by practical exercises using real research data and code from recent publications. The students are expected to do short assignments for each module, applying the module’s research approaches and data to investigate ecological and social questions, gaining experience in data-driven ecological inquiry.
Basic knowledge of ecology and R is highly recommended, but the emphasis of the course is on ecological research and mechanisms.

The course will only be held with a minimum of 5 participants.

For Master- and PhD-students only!
