Title VA: Uruk colonies? The Middle Euphrates in the Uruk period
Description During the Uruk expansion in the middle of the 4th millennium BCE, colonies of southern Mesopotamian traders and settlers were founded on the Middle Euphrates in Syria. Some of these settlements have been investigated since the 1970s in the course of emergency excavation projects. The corresponding publications have only recently been presented. On this basis, it is now possible to examine the chronology and comparative stratigraphy of these sites in order to discuss the various theories on the ‘First World System’ based on empirical data.
