| Description |
This lecture series covers aspects of RNA biology related to various non-coding RNAs as well as their use as drugs to treat diseases. The topics include miRNA & piRNA biogenesis and function, small ncRNAs involved in genome regulation, regulatory roles of long non-coding RNAs and tRNA import. The aim of these lectures is to provide a comprehensive overview of the field of RNA Biology for MSc and PhD students. The NCCR RNA & Disease offers the unique chance to have lectures taught by leading experts in the field from six Swiss research institutions covering a wide range of aspects of RNA biology & RNA therapeutics.
Content:
Micro RNAs; micro RNA function in metabolism; biogenesis and function of piRNAs; long non-coding RNAs; nucleic acid-based drugs; ncRNA-mediated genome regulation; epigenetic programming of genome remodeling in ciliates; telomerase and telomeres; tRNA biology.
NOTE:
The lecture series "RNA Biology II" (fall 2024) and "RNA Biology I" (fall 2025) can be attended in any particular order and do not interdepend on each other. |
