| Title |
Endless Enemies – Post-Secular Mobilizations of the Antichrist/the Katechon, and Amalek |
| Description |
The boundary between religion and politics, once celebrated as an achievement of secular modernity, is crumbling. This is particularly evident today in the resurgence of theologically repressed ideas in contemporary right-wing thought. Three figures take center stage in our new season of the Postsecular Lab: the Antichrist, the Katechon, and Amalek—once apocalyptic or typological figures from biblical tradition, now revived by actors in Silicon Valley, Moscow, and Jerusalem.
The seminar explores the conditions and consequences of this resurgence. It examines how theological figures of the enemy and of order are leaving the religious sphere and penetrating secular contexts—not as pious tradition, but as political weapons.
The Postsecular Lab is an innovative teaching format that is both theoretical and practice-oriented. It is experimental and inter- and transdisciplinary in nature. Working in small groups, students independently invite experts from various disciplines and, together with them, explore and delve deeper into postsecular issues from different thematic perspectives. They develop the questions, conduct the interview in the form of a podcast, and prepare the results for the interrelblog (https://interrelblog.unibe.ch/?page_id=43). |
