Title Methods Seminar: Integration of psychophysiological measurements to answer research questions in differential psychology?
Description Psychological research can benefit from psychophysiological findings. This also applies to Differential Psychology. In the seminar, students will explore what the benefits of psychophysiological measurements consist of and become familiar with the following psychophysiological measurement methods: electroencephalography (EEG), eye-tracking, electrodermal activity (EDA), and the electrocardiogram (ECG).

In the first part of the seminar, the psychophysiological measurement methods will be demonstrated and the biological foundations discussed. In doing so, the informational value of psychophysiological measurements will consistently be elaborated in connection with research questions in differential psychology from the fields of cognition (working memory, executive functions, intelligence). Students will have the opportunity to test a selection of the measuring devices themselves.

Following these introductions, students in small groups will prepare studies involving psychophysiological measurements and differential psychological research questions, and present them to the remaining seminar participants in a journal club format. This should involve a critical discussion of the research question, the chosen methodology, as well as the findings of the study. For these sessions, all seminar participants will also read an additional study, which will subsequently be talked over in a discussion guided by the seminar instructors.

Requirements:
Regular and active participation in the seminar; preparing and reading the mandatory literature (1 Study for the presentation and 6 studies for the discussions); all students must design one session during the semester (45 min., see description above); the course assessment consists of the session design and a written exam at the end of the semester.
