| Title |
Volitional Personality Development |
| Description |
Personality development refers to developmental psychological processes of change and stability in personality, which typically progress slowly during adulthood. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to the question of whether such processes—if desired—can be intentionally «accelerated» through clinical or non clinical psychological interventions. Central issues include the effectiveness of these interventions, the durability of resulting changes, and their transferability to other life domains. The course covers current conceptual approaches and empirical findings on volitional personality development, addressing topics such as reasons and motives for personality change, psychological approaches and interventions, as well as challenges, mechanisms, and limitations. The course combines presentations by students and the instructor with small group and plenary discussions, along with exercises and illustrative examples from research and practice.
Requirements: (1) Readings (homework). (2) Giving a presentation. (3) Regular and active attendance (max. 2 meetings may be missed). The meeting with the own presentation may not be missed. (4) Written assignment (submission of a 5 pages written paper; detailed guidelines on content and format will be provided at the beginning of the course). The final grade is calculated as the average of the grades for the presentation and the written assignment.
Readings: Information on readings will be provided at the beginning of the course. |
